This session provides creative problems to be explored through body movement aimed at cultivating skills for connecting with oneself and each other improvisationally. Based upon principles and materials developed by somatic dance pioneer Barbara Mettler (1907-2002), the session will begin with individual movement explorations that wake up the kinesthetic sense using basic movements that require different patterns of tension and relaxation, as well as exploring loose and light movement qualities which cultivate receptivity. These skills provide the basis for the next studies in finding unity of feeling and a sense of group form in progressively larger groups. This session is meant as a way for participants to aid their own well-being and to apply the material in their work. Discussion of the principles involved as well as brain storming of applications in different settings will conclude the session. For more information on Barbara Mettler's approach go to barbaramettler.org.
